The Friends
of St Mary's
Our
beautiful 15th Century Church of St Mary has served our rural community
down the centuries as it still does today and hopefully will continue
to do so into the future. It remains for many the centre of our village,
standing strong against the elements, an enduring focal point for us and
for our many friends and visitors.
With
increasing costs of repair and maintenance of our historic church, your
Parochial Church Council has listened to ideas from members of our village
community and decided to launch a Friends Scheme to raise support and
secure additional funding to meet these costs into the future. All monies
raised by the Friends will be held in a secure fund reserved solely for
the care of the fabric of the church building and its grounds.
We
believe there are many people in Netherbury and beyond who care about
St Mary's although they may not involve themselves in the religious aspects
of the church. This is an opportunity for all villagers and those with
family links past and present, who are interested in the preservation
of our church, to support this special part of their heritage. A Friends'
Scheme is the way we can make it possible for all to make a positive contribution
to the preservation of St Mary's now and for future generations.
We
plan to launch The Friends of St Mary's early next year and announcements
of our progress will follow.
We
welcome your involvement so if you would like to join our Steering Group
or if you have supportive ideas and would like to be involved do please
get in touch with Allan Harvey on 01308 488350 or
Steve Adams 01308 488 994.
The
Friends of St Mary's is for all people who care about their ancient and
beautiful church.
